General information about cyclone SIOT-M-5
The SIOT-M cyclone is used for coarse and medium purification of gas-air mixtures from dry dust categories that do not contain a high percentage of sticky or abrasive substances. These units are mainly used in the same fields as their predecessor (the SIOT cyclone) for dry cleaning of gas-air mixtures emitted during technological processes: drying, roasting, fuel combustion, sintering, etc. They are also effectively used for cleaning aspiration air in industries such as ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, mechanical engineering, oil production, energy, building materials manufacturing, as well as the chemical industry. However, like their predecessor, SIOT-M cyclones cannot be used in explosive environments unless specially equipped for that purpose. They are also not recommended for air purification from dust with a high content of sticky and abrasive particles.
In terms of efficiency, SIOT-M cyclones are close to the universal CN-15 cyclones. The cyclone resistance is 650–1200 Pa. Maximum pressure — 4800 Pa. Gas velocity in the duct — 15–18 m/s. Depending on the series, hoppers can be equipped with a slide gate or a flap valve (“flapper”).
Design features of cyclone SIOT-M-5
The SIOT-M-5 cyclone is manufactured from black steel resistant to corrosion, but at the customer’s request it can also be made from other materials, including those suitable for explosive environments. In SIOT-M cyclones, a solid cylindrical insert is installed between the body and the hopper, reducing vortex intensity in the lower part of the body and hopper. As a result, secondary dust carryover is reduced by 2–2.5 times compared to the previous SIOT design.
The units can be manufactured with either right-hand or left-hand airflow rotation. SIOT-M cyclones can be installed on both the suction and the pressure side relative to the fan.
Advantages of cyclone SIOT-M-5
The main difference between the upgraded models and the older versions is the higher air purification efficiency. SIOT-M cyclones are considered high-efficiency units. Unlike earlier models, this series includes three additional cyclone diameters: 8, 9, and 10. This became possible due to the improved purification coefficient, which allowed the range to expand to ten models.
Other design elements were also improved: the hopper construction was simplified for easier manufacturing and operation, and the spinner was redesigned — instead of a screw cover, a snail-type design was implemented. Since the flat-shield spinner had a high resistance coefficient, it was excluded from the upgraded models. In addition, the dust outlet diameter was increased, the casing thickness was raised from 2 mm to 3 mm, and its height was reduced by approximately 30%.

Cyclone SIOT-M-5 hopper
The hopper is manufactured according to the customer’s individual requirements and the desired cleaning frequency. Filtered dust accumulates in the hopper, so regular cleaning must be ensured. Dust discharge should be performed at specified intervals. Hopper overfilling leads to reduced system efficiency. To prevent air leakage and performance loss, the hopper is hermetically welded to the cyclone body. This design ensures high purification efficiency of 83–90%, depending on dust type, fan, cyclone model, and duct parameters.
The choice of cyclone size depends on system capacity, recommended duct velocities, pressure loss in the cyclone, and fan capacity. If the flow velocity is below 15 m/s, cleaning efficiency decreases.
Installation of cyclone SIOT-M-5
